Transform World e-Newsletter :: April 2007
Volume 4, Year 2007

Dear friends and fellow workers in Christ,

Ps 145:4 says “One generation will commend your works to another; they will tell of your mighty works.”  The Asia Emerging Leaders Summit held in Bali from 11-15 March 2007 engaged in defining Asia’s new leadership paradigm for the raising up of a Courageous Community of Servant Leaders.

The Asia Emerging Leaders SummitTransformWorld Connection was one of a group of sponsors who served in an interactive program led by Bambang Budijanto, VP of Compassion International, in one-on-one coaching, small group discussions/problem solving, powerful Bible studies, extended times of prayer and leadership development coaching all formed part of their curriculum.   The summit sought to address the ongoing issue of building up “a new generation of Daniels and Esthers” for their generation. The sponsors included Compassion International, Fuller Theological Seminary, Eagles Communications, and INFEMIT

We felt it was part of our God given mandate to pass on the baton to new leaders and to commit to pray for them as they continue in their God given assignments for their generation.

AELSA key point which our younger friends will take back with them is a greater understanding of “preferring significance over success” and “impact over events”  We believe each of them has the potential to significantly impact their nation over the next decade and beyond.  We have encouraged them to courageously “push” at the boundaries of their present influence, to regions and areas that they have perhaps not yet thought off.  A paradigm shift has begun in their minds, a holy restlessness, a deeper understanding of accountability and a passion to simply obey the commands of Jesus in their generation.

The following chart graphically presents the ideas out of our time together. Should you wish further clarification or information of our time together, we would be glad to answer any questions you may have.

In 2008 until 2010 we trust we will be able to meet our “growing community of courageous leaders” through Asia Regional events as well as National Emerging Leaders Forums.

Bambang Budijanto serves as the Congress Director for Transform World Singapore 2010. The emerging/younger leaders from the Asia Emerging Leaders Summit and other regional summits will be taking the lead in planning and implementing the Global Congress.

Transform World: Fellowship of the Committed
30th March – 1st April, 2007
A Report

Introduction

The Transform World: Fellowship of the Committed meeting grew out of a conviction felt at the TW: India 2006 Conference, Hyderabad, October 24-28, 2006.  In response to the eagerness and commitment expressed by Conference servant catalysts to facilitate State-wide TW events, it was suggested that a Follow Up meeting be first convened to prayerfully consider next steps.  35 men and women representing a spectrum of Focus groups and states in India, therefore gathered to hear what the Lord was saying to us as His Body in and for this particular season towards Transformation in India.

Summary of Objectives

The two-fold objective of this meet were to (1) inform, educate, hear, cheer-on and pray for transformational streams in the nation of India and (2) to prayerfully plan dates and action plans towards State-wide events in 2007 and 2008. The program was therefore generally open ended allowing time for reflection, sharing and informing the group, of significant “transformational stories” that were occurring in the country. Brief seasons of prayer dotted the conference program.

India Today – New India Tomorrow?

OutlookThe April 9, 2007 issue of the Outlook which has just hit the stands has on its cover page “Forget the 9.2% Growth – Just look at How the Other India Survives” featuring a young lad sweating after perhaps a hard day’s work and with a bouquet of roses in this grasp. Growth Story yes- but there are 300 million yet to see it. Welcome to India Today.

In Bad Health
Primary healthcare centres serve only 21% of villages
Medicines are unavailable in 74% of villages
70% of the population lack adequate sanitation
Only 38% of the population have piped household water

It is in the context of such a nation, that the Church has been called to be the “salt” and the “light”. The lost focus of the Church towards meaningful engagement with society at large, in all her facets is the need of the hour. Mission as Transformation needs better and many more practitioners from among the Indian Church’s 68 million or so. The Transform World movement seeks to be that catalyst which will serve to inform, educate, connect and motivate the Church in India to put the stamp of Jesus on the very fabric of society, bringing reconciliation, restoration and reformation in the nation.

Outcomes of the Gathering in New Delhi

The two-fold objective of this meet were to (1) inform, educate, hear, cheer-on and pray for transformational streams in the nation of India and (2) to prayerfully plan dates and action plans towards State-wide events in 2007 and 2008. The program was therefore generally open ended allowing time for reflection, sharing and informing the group, of significant “transformational stories” that were occurring in the country. • TW’s new Knowledge and Connections Management wing, which seeks to provide ongoing inter-facing, synergy, networking and connections to facilitate smooth, timely and efficient communications was introduced.
  • The seven point Nation Building Focus was brought to light by Luis Bush, who said that Christian mission in India was now in the position to actively engage, but also cooperate with the Government in their agenda of India’s transformation – Public Governance, Infrastructure Development, Health, Business, Environment, Social Security and Culture. New Delhi will decide in April firm dates for a TW: New Delhi event, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh will continue facilitating regional meetings in Jabalpur and Raipur. Dates are yet to be fixed for a sub-state UP event. Requests for TW events in Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, and Jharkhand have been received and are under process.
  • A 15 – 20 member Indian delegation will prayerfully consider traveling to the TW: Korea 2007 from October 21-23 in Jehu Island, S. Korea. Catalytic servant facilitators are encouraged to attend the said meetings.

TRANSFORMATION IN 3.5 YEARS
SERVICING OF LORD JESUS

God’s message:

Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore to send out workers into His harvest field.” (Matthew 9:35-38)

This life has no meaning when Christ did not subjugated (E.Stanley Jones)

Two thousand years ago, The Lord Jesus performed His service on the face of the earth, He faced a situation where the community is termed in Matthew 9:35-38 as a community that is tired and neglected. In The Living Bible, tired and neglected is translated to be as follows: because the difficulties that they faced are very big and they did not know what must they do or where must they seek help. Basically, a few problems arrived repeatedly without stop. Not surprisingly, the community becomes a community that is tired. Tired because they have to bear the big problem. This is like an illustration that is very precise about the situation of our nation at this point of time. Finally, our nation lives in multi dimension crisis. Our nation becomes a nation that is buried, nation that is tired and neglected.

Looking at the situation faced by such a community, that sensed by Lord Jesus are:

HIS HEART IS FULL OF MERCY

After looking at of the situation the community that is tired and neglected, Jesus heart is full of mercy. His heart is a heart that is full of mercy. Jesus Christ always moves from heart. When His heart moved, then He moved. The heart is the main machine for move. The heart that two thousand years ago was moved by mercy, at this time also is moved after He considers the situation of our nation that is now tired and neglected. Exactly because of His mercies, He was willing to come to the earth, empty Himself, obtain the body of a human being, bear contempt and suffering until He died on the wooden cross. On that wooden cross is the meeting between the sin of human beings and God’s love. On the wooden cross, the sin of any human is made clean by God love.

HIS HEART IS OPTIMISTIC

Lord Jesus also looks at communities that are tired and neglected with optimism. That’s why He said, the harvest is plentiful. He can look at a difficult situation with optimism, because He is a person who is sovereign. His power is never changed. He hold rein on the whole cosmos. He holds the future for a nation. He has the power to arrange the wheel of the nation’s history. There is no matter that is impossible for God. A situation that is difficult, no matter what, also will not hamper God’s wish for bestowing His blessing. He can uses the situation that is pitch dark for becoming the background that is bright that is a blessing from God himself. Every revival that is The Lord’s Action that results in national transformation always occurs in a time when the nation is in moral darkness that is tough and depressing economy that is bad.

RESPONDING AS SOMETHING THAT IS IMPORTANT AND URGENT

The third feeling of The Lord Jesus, when He looked at the community that was tired and neglected was a sense of urgency, a feeling of urgency, important and exhorting. Because if we talk about harvest, we talk about one period (season), meaning the start has a limit and end of limit. When the beginning of limit has not arrived, we cannot get the maximum result. While if the end of the limit is passed over, wheat that has not been harvested will spoil in the field. A wise farmer when he looks at the harvest at his doorstep will feel the need to prepare plenty of workers because he does not want produce from the farm to go to waste.

Nevertheless in the 3.5 years of ministry on earth, The Lord Jesus’ service transformed the whole earth. Mankind that is tired and neglected finds the answer in The Lord Jesus’ service. As a climax, The Lord Jesus paid the price by surrendering himself to die on the wooden cross. All the human problems and needs have a solution. In the cross, all of the sin becomes weak as a result of Him bearing it.

ESSENCE
The Lord Jesus’ attitude when serving for 3.5 years: full of mercy to people, Optimistic to people, Priorities is the people.

REFLECTION
What are the priorities in our life at this moment? Money, title or people? If we serve, what is our motivation for serving God? The Lord Jesus’ heart was moved by mercy for people.

COMMITMENT
I want to change my motivation in serving God, my orientation is not material but joy when I see people who are lost come to Jesus.
