NEW SIGNS OF VARIOUS BREAKTHROUGHS ARE EMERGING IN INDONESIA

In the story of Elijah & his servant, the praying Elijah received a report by his servant that a small cloud is rising from the sea. Eventually the sky grew black with clouds, the wind rose and a heavy rain fell that ended the years of drought (cp 1 Kings 18:44ff).

In 2007, after years of prayers, asking for His forgiveness & mercies, unity movements among various sections in the Indonesian churches (ecumenical, evangelical, pentecostal/charismatic leaders), an emerging cloud of supernatural intervention & holistic transformation seem to be developing above the Indonesian islands.

God’s intervention in Poso however, has come in such an unexpected way. On 6 January 2007 evening, a bright light was revealed to Selvin Bungge an 8 year old girl as she was in her room in Meko village, Poso regency, Sulawesi. She witnessed that one like the Lord Jesus with an angel appeared to her. She heard a voice saying to her that she will be given plenty, however her family should be fully obedient to God & she has to share the gift to everybody. After the visitation Selvin prayed for her mother who was suffering from acute rheumatism. The next day her mother was completely healed. Then with her mother, Selvin went to Palu city and prayed for another ill family member, who was again healed.

News broke out of these miracles. God’s holy power is real. People know that the miracles took place because of the power of Jesus (Isa). Many people came to Meko village from surrounding areas. To be able to stay there, thousands of Christians & Muslims came and built tents to ask God for healings or to witness & praise God as they see God’s wonderful work. This is remarkable, because another kind of healing, the more difficult one is happening. The process of healings, like prejudice, hatred, and revenge in the hearts of Muslims & Christians in the grassroots are beginning to be seen.

Transformation of a village, city & nation is a process that would involve many aspects of life and years of faithful obedience to the Lord. Beside reports of healings that are coming from a number of places in these islands, we are witnessing a village in Bali that are transforming holistically. Blimbing Sari is an extraordinary village in the Bali Island. The population of this village which is about 700+ people are practically all Christians.

What is extraordinary in Blimbing Sari? A tested faith through persecution & suffering many years ago has been blooming in holistic transformation. The power of the Gospel has been further expressed in Balinese culture. Dr. I Wayan Mastra, their bishop & senior leader has been much used by the Lord in this area.

This village is better known as a model (‘award winning’) village in Bali. The fruits of their faith in social life have reached the highest record in many areas. They are recognized as the cleanest village almost monthly from the government. They have also been a model in education in their regency, a model of village economic development in Bali. The village is known as free from narcotics, no HIV/Aids and practically no crime heard there. The villagers of this formerly persecuted Christians regarded their freedom land as a Promise Land from the Lord.

All praises to God. The Lord honours His promises (cp Jn. 17:21-23) through His Word. As various members of the body of Christ (around the world) humble themselves in prayers, repentance & complementing one another, greater works are taking place. Thank you so much for standing before His throne of mercy for Poso, for Indonesia. Much however are still needed to take place for a clear transforming nation. Our encouragements come from His words which say, ‘the one who trusts in Him will never be put to shame’ (Rom 9:33; 1 Pet 2:6). Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven (Mt 6:10).

WHAT IS WORSHIP?

The word worship appears 108 times in the Bible. In English, worship means to love sincerely, to adore or respect someone by praying and cogitating. To worship means how someone shows his obedience to God. The Old Testament uses four types of words that mean worship in English namely:

  1. Shachah (show-khaw) means to bow down, to humble, to implore as a respect in worship. Shachah is translated as to worship. This word appears 47 times in the Bible (Genesis 22:5).
  2. Abad (aw-bahd) means to work or serve. Strong’s means to work like a slave, to serve as a worshipper. Abad is used in Deuteronomy 6:13. This word is used 290 times in the Bible and is translated as to serve, which is written 227 times in the Bible.
  3. Paneh (paw-neem) is used 2,109 times in the Bible. “Paneh” can be translated as to face (this is written 390 times) and before (this is written 1,137 times). Paneh bisa digantikan untuk seseoarng atau perasaan seseorang (1 Kings 12:30). Paneh sebagai perposisi di dalam hadirat. Paneh is an invitation to worship God.
  4. Segid (sih-geed) means to show respect and to cherish someone. This word is used 12 times in the Bible (Daniel 3:5). This word is used to worship the Lord, idols, or someone.
The New Testament uses six words that are translated as to worship in English:
  1. Proskuneo (prah-skoo-neh-oh) is the word used by the Magi (Matthew 2:2). It is also translated as to bow down, which means to show respect, to give praise. This word is located in John 4:24.
  2. Sebomai (she-bohm-ahee) means to revere, to respect, to adore, and to worship zealously.
  3. Doxa (doh-khas), which is where the word doxology is originated from, is used 168 times in the Bible. Doxa means dignity, glory, honor, praise and worship. Doxa is located in Philippians 2:11.
  4. Latreuo (lah-tree-oo-oh), which is one of the very important words, means to serve, to minister. It is used 21 times in the Bible (Philippians 3:3).
  5. Eusebeo (you-she-beh-oh) means to reverence or to point out mistakes. This word appears in Paul’s service in Athena (Acts 17:23). In 1 Timothy 5:4, Eusebeo is used to show the ministerial responsibility for children and grandchildren to his family.
  6. Ethelothreskia (eth-el-oh-thray-skay-ah) means self-willed. This word is used in Colosians 2:23.
In general, worship is expressed by getting up very early and singing one praise. Worship is also identical to bowing down and lifting hands before God. The Old Testament explains several basic principals of worship:
  1. Worship is a relationship. Worship involves relationship with God personally.
  2. Every human is obliged to worship based on the creation and for all God’s people based on the calling.
  3. Worship is a response to God’s initiative on the revelation of Himself and on the redemption He has done.
  4. Worship involves self-submission, ministry and respect.
  5. Worship can be done individually and in group.
  6. Worship can be done both formally and informally.
  7. The characteristic of worship can change but the essence does not change.
  8. Worship is about the heart, not mere act.
  9. Holistic worship involves a person as a whole.
  10. Besides becoming liturgy, worship must be a lifestyle too.
